Kate Parker - Founder
We were contacted by Kate, founder of Harrier as she had seen some our social media posts in relation to access to finance for female led businesses. She had an idea of how she wanted to scale her business that she started from home 3 years ago, but was struggling to get the support she needed.
Having sat down with her at their premises in Derbyshire, Kate explained how she had grown from a start-up in 2019, trading from her spare room, designing her own kit, to almost a £500k turnover in just 3 years, through a pandemic! Kate had self-funded the business to that point but needed to increase the volume of stock imported from China to meet demand.
At a relatively small turnover, like so many SME’s, Harrier was sat within the general banking pool, therefore didn’t have access to a dedicated manager to talk to, so nothing progressed. I stepped through options such as trade, invoice finance and VAT loans to help with cash flow, all of which she’d never heard of.
Within a matter of days, a VAT loan together with an unsecured loan were in place. This injected immediate working capital to pay off a supplier and fund another container of stock. With a trade finance facility to follow, future containers will be funded, allowing Harrier to scale quickly.
Roxanne has been amazing at helping up find better ways of managing our cashflow and raising capital to further expand our business. Although we have had advice from accountants, consultants and high street banks in the past, none of these have been sufficient in supporting us to know what is actually available to us as an SME. There was so much we hadn't known about or taken advantage of.
We have saved significant amounts of interest through using alternative providers to raise capital, restructuring HMRC payments to smooth annual cash flow, and helping us set up trade agreements which means we have less deficits over the year when goods are on the water.
As someone who is still learning, the help and support Female Founder Finance has been invaluable and completely transformed our growth strategy. The brakes are now off and we are set for big things in the UK and beyond, thank you!
